A Rare Paraffin Light Co. stamped duplex oil lamp.
The Paraffin Light co was owned by James Young who processed oil from shale in the mid to late 1800’s. The lamp works moved from Edinburgh to Birmingham in 1878.
The lamp has a large cast iron Cherub/Putti which stands on a black ceramic base. An original marked Hinks glass font which appears in the Hinks catalogue and carries a No. 1 Triple Hinks burner and heat proof marked duplex chimney. Victorian acid etched ball shade which has some chips on top rim – see photo.
This is a very heavy oil lamp at 5.45 kgs, height to top of chimney 29″.
Fully restored and working.
